Women’s Empowerment and the Zero Discrimination Movement: A Breakfast with First Lady of Panama

New York, March 9, 2018 Concordia and Seleni host a breakfast with guest of honor Mrs. Lorena Castillo García de Varela, First Lady of the Republic of Panama, UNAIDS Special Ambassador for Latin America, and 2017 Global Impact Leadership Award winner. Founder & Chairwoman of Seleni Institute, Nitzia Logothetis speaks with the First Lady of Panama about human rights and women’s empowerment as part of Concordia’s Global Partnerships Week 2018.

Seeking to raise awareness on the negative impacts of stigma and discrimination regarding to people suffering from HIV/AIDS, First Lady of the Republic of Panama developed the Zero Discrimination Movement, a campaign focused not only on broadening the access to HIV/AIDS prevention and timely diagnosis to difficult-to-access rural areas and to the most remote and vulnerable indigenous communities in Panama, but also on fighting against prejudice and exclusion of this population.
