Paying it Forward: Alumnae of the Libra Internship Program Speak to Newest Intern Class
New York, June 7, 2018 – The Libra Internship Program (LIP) greeted the Summer 2018 cohort this week, kicking off the program with an exciting orientation in New York. The interns had the opportunity to talk with and learn from Libra executives, heads of Libra’s Social Programs and with four former interns – Angel Key (Winter 2014), Kiana Davis (Summer 2015), Vasia Liakou (Winter 2018), and Mahin Siddiki (Winter 2018) – as part of their onboarding program.
During the session, the panelists spoke passionately about their own internship experiences and gave valuable advice to the incoming group on how they can maximize their experience at the Libra Group and its subsidiaries. The session revolved around themes of being confident, the importance of asking questions, staying humble, taking initiative as well as taking ownership of any mistakes that may happen along the way.
The alumnae told the new intern cohort to work hard, but also reminded them to enjoy the city they would be working in. In the words of Vasia Liakou, Education Programs intern, “have a genuine interest in what you are doing and be unafraid to own the projects that are assigned to you. This is your opportunity to become a leader in the workplace. But at the same time, Eventbrite is your friend! Use it to explore the city you are working in.”
Many of the new interns have remarked that this panel was very impactful and excited them for their upcoming experiences.
This orientation marks the debut of the fifteenth cohort of the program. LIP is a unique opportunity for students to undertake a paid placement with the Libra Group and its 30 subsidiaries around the world. The objective is to provide opportunities for students to further develop the skills that will help define their future while they learn about our businesses and management philosophy. One of the features of the program is that interns are assign to a dedicated mentor and ‘buddy’ to support and guide them within their role helping them reach their full potential.
