New Achim Boehme Scholarship Awardees Announced

February 6, 2023 – Lomar Shipping’s Achim Boehme Scholarship Programme has awarded scholarships to nine students from the City University of Applied Sciences in Bremen, Germany. Scholars include Kelly O’Grady (US), Gonzalo Vallejo Moller (Venezuela), Bruno Molina Stagi (Uruguay), Surendra Solanki (India), Michel Rhenzo Pasion (Philippines), Francisco do Santos Portela (Portugal), Soufiane Zakri (Morocco), Hanife Ucar (Turkey), and Moritze Wottrich (Germany). The scholars are pursuing degrees in International Ship Management/Nautical Sciences and International Shipping & Chartering.

The scholarship program was established to support the next generation of shipping leaders in the memory of Achim Boehm, the inspirational CEO of Lomar from 2010-2020. He tragically lost a brave, year-long battle with cancer in July 2020, at his home in Bremen, Germany, surrounded by his family at just 56 years old. Known for his unwavering support of young people pursuing careers in his industry, Achim was a great mentor and teacher.

We recently heard from scholar Hanife Uçar, who shared that he started working as a working-student for Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. “It is a completely different and challenging field for me. I am still around the borders of shipping but in a different form, which I believe will help me to gain another experience.”

We wish the best to this new cohort of scholars. Learn more at
