The HOME Project Signs an MOU with the Athens Municipal Authority

Athens, May 17, 2019 Earlier this month, the HOME Project signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Athens Municipal Authority in order to strengthen the delivery of high-quality services for lone refugee children that have arrived in Greece and are currently in the city.

The HOME Project and the Athens Municipal Authority’s collaboration will focus on the policy areas of Protection, Health and Wellbeing, Education, Empowerment and Livelihoods, Advocacy and Communication, Coordination and Information Management through the implementation of best practices and identifying synergies.

The City of Athens with this partnership focuses on the most vulnerable group, the unaccompanied children who are in need of our absolute attention,” said George Broulias, Mayor of the City of Athens.

With targeted actions of community building we can have a positive impact on the lives of both the refugee as well as the Greek community,” added Sofia Kouvelaki, CEO of The HOME Project.

The HOME Project was set up in response to the global refugee crisis, the largest the world has seen since the Second World War. Greece alone has received over one million people in search of shelter and safety from the beginning of 2015; 8,000 lives have been lost trying to cross the Mediterranean. The HOME Project aims to provide security, dignity and decent living conditions for the most vulnerable – to Help, Overcome, Motivate, Empower. In the midst of humanitarian disaster, it seeks to move people from despair to hope, and from fear to safety.
