Libra Group Recognized on the Corporate Mentoring Challenge Honor Roll

Wednesday, February 1, 2017. The Libra Group is very proud to be on the Corporate Mentoring Challenge Honor Roll at the 2017 National Mentorship Summit, in Washington, D.C., for a second time. Launched by former First Lady Michelle Obama at the 2011 National Mentoring Summit, the Corporate Mentoring Challenge promotes and recognizes private-sector engagement and support of quality youth mentoring.

Mentoring is a key aspect of several Libra Group social responsibility initiatives. The Libra Group believes mentors serve as role models in exploring career pathways and helping mentees develop the skills necessary to successfully pursue jobs, business or internships. Part of the philosophy of Libra Group is that we mentor and empower young people through the Libra Mentorship Program, The Libra Internship Program, as well as entrepreneurs with The Hellenic Entrepreneurship Award and The American Entrepreneurship Award. There have been over 120 mentors across Libra Group that have mentored approximately 600 people throughout these Libra Group Social Responsibility Programs, to date.

The Libra Mentorship Program was launched in the United States initially, with 20 mentorships and continues to grow to include more of Libra’s locations around the globe. Our Mentorship Program comprises year-long mentorships for selected individuals – principally young people, first generation college students, and students who face socio-economic challenges. The Mentorship Program committee ensures the successful matching of mentors and mentees with several organizations including Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA), and Miami Dade College (MDC).

The Libra Internship Program was launched in 2011 and it is a truly international, unique opportunity for 150 bright, talented young people with proven leadership potential to undertake a paid placement of up to four months’ duration with the Libra Group and its businesses around the world. One of the core features of the Internship Program is the Buddy and Mentor Program. Our interns work alongside industry professionals and each is assigned a dedicated mentor and ‘buddy’ who help them learn about our businesses, strategy and management philosophy while they further develop the skills that will help define their future. Goal-setting, coupled with performance reviews and constructive feedback provided by mentors, are all features of the program enabling interns to refine skills and develop self-knowledge.

Our Entrepreneurship Awards, the Hellenic Entrepreneurship Award (HEA)  and the American Entrepreneurship Award (AEA) were created to support entrepreneurship and provide practical support in targeted areas of Greece, Bronx, NY and Miami Dade County, FL. One of the most important elements of the prizes are the range of support services the businesses are given in the form of an expert mentor who guides the entrepreneurs, makes introductions to others, and encouraging them towards their next business goals. The HEA and AEA have mentored countless entrepreneurs throughout the ecosystems of Greece, Miami, and the Bronx.
