Applications Now Open for American Entrepreneurship Award 2017

– Applications deadline April 27th

January 30th, 2017. Applications for the second cycle of the American Entrepreneurship Award (AEA) are now open. Entrepreneurs in the Bronx, New York and Miami-Dade County, Florida with a new business idea are encouraged to submit their business plans and compete for a share of $125,000 in start-up funding, as well as mentorship and a range of support services.

The AEA is looking for business plans that exhibit sustainability, innovation and a positive impact on the local communities by creating jobs in the Bronx and Miami-Dade County. The American Entrepreneurship Award (AEA) wants to encourage participation and inspire hope among both first-time entrepreneurs as well as small business owners who are seeking support for a new commercial venture or a new business idea. To improve their applications, interested entrepreneurs can participate in different training events scheduled for March and April, including business ideation, entrepreneurship legal clinics, funding strategies, and marketing boot camps.

According to Jimmy Athanasopoulos, Head of Social Responsibility, “at the Libra Group we always felt a responsibility as an international business to give back to the communities we operate in and to provide opportunity”.

AEA was conceived after its founding partner, the Libra Group, became a founding sponsor of My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (MBK Alliance), a non-profit organization launched by President Obama that aimed at eliminating opportunity and achievement gaps for boys and young men of color. Thanks to the Libra Group’s initial commitment of $500,000 and continued overhead funding, the AEA is able to award $125,000 in interest free loans as well as provide mentorship and business support services.

The AEA has partnered with Workshop in Business Opportunities (WIBO), Hostos Community College, New York City Department of Small Business Services, University of Pennsylvania Law School, Miami Dade College and The Idea Center at Miami Dade College to identify promising entrepreneurs that will transform their communities.

The deadline for application is April 27, 2017. Finalists will be announced in May and winners will be announced in June 2017.
